Online specialist consultation or an appointment in Poland
The most appropriate consultation format depends on your symptoms, the specialty and whether a physical examination or diagnostic test is required. Some patients begin online before deciding whether they need to travel.
Online specialist consultation
An online appointment may be suitable for discussing symptoms, reviewing medical records, obtaining a second opinion or planning the next stage of care.
- Speak with a specialist from your home
- Share available scans and medical reports in advance
- Discuss whether further testing is required
- Receive guidance about suitable next steps
Face-to-face specialist appointment
An in-person appointment may be more appropriate when you need a physical examination, diagnostic testing, treatment or a surgical assessment.
- Private clinic appointment with a suitable specialist
- Diagnostic tests may be arranged where required
- Treatment planning following clinical assessment
- Coordination support throughout the visit
Your consultation does not need to become a complicated medical trip
When an in-person visit is required, MedTrip Poland can help coordinate the practical elements around your appointment. The level of support can be adapted to your needs and the length of your stay.
Airport transfers
We can help arrange transport between the airport, your accommodation and the clinic where required.
Hotel accommodation
We can assist with suitable accommodation near the clinic for a short consultation visit or a longer treatment stay.
Appointment coordination
We help organise clinic communication, appointment details and the information you need before travelling.
From your first enquiry to your specialist appointment
You do not need to know which clinic or doctor to contact before submitting an enquiry. Provide the information you already have, and we will help identify the appropriate route.
Send your enquiry
Tell us about your symptoms, diagnosis, waiting-list position or the type of specialist opinion you are seeking.
Share available records
Where relevant, provide previous results, scans, referral letters or medical reports for initial review.
Review the options
We explain the available consultation format, clinic arrangements, indicative costs and practical requirements.
Attend your consultation
Speak with the specialist online or travel to Poland with additional transfer and accommodation support where requested.
What happens when you already have a referral?
You can still use the service when you already have a GP or consultant referral. The referral may help the Polish clinic understand your medical history and may be important when you intend to seek HSE reimbursement or submit a claim to a private health insurer.
A consultation can be arranged without a referral, but reimbursement rules are separate
Many private specialist consultations in Poland can be booked directly. However, direct access to the doctor does not automatically mean that the appointment or treatment will qualify for reimbursement.
For HSE Cross Border Directive claims, private insurance benefits or specific investigations, you may need a valid referral and supporting documentation completed before treatment.
Ask what documents may be neededHSE reimbursement and private insurance benefits depend on individual eligibility, the type of care received, the referral pathway and the rules that apply at the time of treatment. Patients should confirm their position with the HSE or their insurer before committing to treatment. MedTrip Poland can provide organisational guidance but cannot guarantee reimbursement.

What information should you prepare?
You do not need to have a complete medical file before making an enquiry. However, any information you can provide may help the clinic understand your situation and arrange the most appropriate type of consultation.
Your main concern
Describe the symptoms, diagnosis or medical question you would like the specialist to review.
Previous results
Include available scans, blood-test results, clinic letters or other medical reports where relevant.
Current treatment
Mention any medication, previous procedures or treatment you are currently receiving.
Your preferred format
Tell us whether you would prefer an online consultation, an appointment in Poland or guidance before deciding.
Any existing referral
A referral is not required for many private consultations, but it can still provide useful clinical information.
Your availability
Let us know whether you are looking for the earliest possible appointment or have preferred travel dates.
When might a referral still be required?
The ability to speak with a private specialist without a GP referral does not mean that referrals are never needed. Requirements depend on the consultation, investigation, procedure and reimbursement pathway.
A referral may still be important in some situations
- When the specialist needs formal clinical information from your GP or another treating doctor
- When a diagnostic test or procedure requires a medical referral
- When applying for HSE reimbursement under an eligible healthcare pathway
- When your private health insurer requires a referral or prior approval
- When the clinic needs additional medical information before confirming whether an appointment is appropriate
The treating specialist remains responsible for deciding whether an online or in-person consultation is suitable, whether further tests are needed and whether any treatment can be recommended. MedTrip Poland coordinates access and practical arrangements but does not replace clinical assessment.
Why do patients living in Ireland consider Poland?
For some patients, Poland offers a practical alternative when they want earlier access to private specialist care, a second opinion or a coordinated route to diagnostics and treatment.
Private specialist appointments without unnecessary delays
Many private clinics allow patients to contact specialist services directly, without first arranging a GP appointment only to request a referral.
Online consultation or face-to-face care
Some patients begin with an online specialist consultation, while others travel to Poland when an examination, diagnostic test or treatment is needed.
A short journey from Ireland
Flights from Ireland to several Polish cities usually take approximately two to three hours, depending on the route and departure airport.
Help beyond the appointment itself
MedTrip Poland can assist with clinic communication, transfers, accommodation and practical arrangements when a visit to Poland is required.
Medical safety and urgent symptoms
This service is intended for planned private healthcare and specialist consultations. It is not an emergency service. Anyone experiencing severe, sudden or potentially life-threatening symptoms should contact emergency services in Ireland or attend the nearest emergency department without delay.
Speak with us about the specialist care you need
You do not need to know the name of a particular doctor or clinic. Describe the medical issue, consultation type or second opinion you are looking for, and MedTrip Poland will contact you to discuss the available options.
Return to the specialist enquiry form Submitting an enquiry does not commit you to booking a consultation, treatment or medical trip.Important Links
